• High Rock Lake hosts MFL Phoenix Bass Fishing League (salisburypost.com) — Newton resident Jacob Smith took top honors in the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League event on High Rock Lake, winning the North Carolina Division with a five-bass haul weighing 24 pounds, 11 ounces. The June 8 tournament in Salisbury drew anglers from across the region, with Smith relying on a specialized rig and an early-morning bite to secure the $2,590 prize and his first BFL victory.
