1. New details released after massive apartment fire in Rowan County displaces 59 (wbtv.com) — Officials have confirmed that last weekend’s massive fire at The Grand apartments off Julian Road in Salisbury was accidental, likely sparked by smoking materials in a breezeway. The blaze displaced 59 residents but caused no deaths, and the fire marshal is urging people to check smoke alarms while encouraging donations of gift cards at The Grand’s clubhouse to help affected families.
   

2. Data center moratorium fever for NC local governments (carolinapublicpress.org) — Salisbury is moving forward with a Flexential data center, after City Council approved a June 2 text amendment that sets limits on size, noise, and water use for such projects. While Rowan County has paused new data centers and other NC towns adopt moratoriums, Salisbury is instead building a regulatory framework and directing residents to a city webpage for detailed information and FAQs.
   

3. GISProject (catawba.edu) — A recent Catawba College graduate has created a detailed sidewalk gap analysis to help Salisbury decide where new sidewalks will most improve safety and connectivity. Working with multiple city departments, her GIS-based report guides how existing sidewalk funds can be spent for maximum benefit to neighborhoods, runners, and everyday pedestrians around town.
   

4. Area Sports: McIntyre to L-R, GARS at Sapona, Kepley can't be stopped (salisburypost.com) — Rowan County sports fans get updates on local standouts, including Salisbury’s Vance Honeycutt shining in minor league baseball and former Salisbury High star Jamyrah Cherry transferring in college basketball. The roundup also notes East Rowan’s Brady McIntyre heading to Lenoir-Rhyne, Catawba’s World Series honors, and tributes to two longtime area sports figures.
