📰 News we're reading
• Johnston County Requests Voluntary Water Conservation As Drought Persists (jocoreport.com) — Johnston County officials in Smithfield are asking all county water customers, including town residents, to voluntarily cut back on usage as drought conditions strain the main water supply. Simple steps like limiting lawn watering, fixing leaks, and following the county’s odd-even irrigation schedule could help avoid stricter restrictions later this summer.

• Selma Man Accused Of Causing Damage Inside County Jail (jocoreport.com) — A Johnston County inmate housed at the Smithfield detention center faces an extra charge after authorities say a communications tablet used by prisoners was damaged. The Selma man, already jailed on a probation violation, received a much higher additional bond and remains in custody while the new misdemeanor property damage case moves forward.

• Two Charged After Stolen Pickup Allegedly Taken to Salvage Yard (jocoreport.com) — In a case centered out of Smithfield, deputies have charged a local resident and a Four Oaks woman with three felonies each after a pickup reported stolen from Braswell Road was allegedly taken toward a Goldsboro salvage yard. Investigators say the months-long probe tied the Smithfield man to both the theft and possession of the vehicle, with more charges possible.
