WECT INVESTIGATES: Wilmington police officer sues department, alleging civil rights violations (wect.com) — A Wilmington police corporal has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit accusing the city and police department of discrimination and retaliation based on her sex and sexual orientation. She claims she was demoted, investigated repeatedly and denied promotions after raising workplace concerns, and is seeking reinstatement, back pay, and court orders to prevent future discrimination; city officials have declined comment so far.
   

2. Living Hope Day Center move raises neighbor concerns (wwaytv3.com) — Living Hope Day Center is eyeing the former Sorrow Drowner site at 10th and Dock streets in Wilmington after losing its space at First Baptist Church, and nearby neighbors are raising questions about the move. Center leaders say they'll hold a public forum to address concerns about panhandling, school proximity and after-hours activity, while also working to raise about $173,000 more to complete the relocation.
   

3. South Brunswick star Walker Jenkins called up to MLB by Minnesota Twins (starnewsonline.com subscription) — A former South Brunswick High School standout from the Wilmington area, Walker Jenkins has been called up by the Minnesota Twins and is set for his MLB debut on Friday. The story tracks his rise from local high school phenom to top prospect, highlighting his injuries, Triple-A surge, and place among other Wilmington pro baseball players.
   

4. From Plastic Bricks to Second Chances: How a Lego Wheelchair Gave a Rescue Kitten New Hope – WENG 98.1FM, 107.5 FM & 1530 AM (wengradio.com) — A Wilmington Lego enthusiast and Bricks & Minifigs employee, Michael Hawley, built a custom wheelchair from plastic bricks to help a disabled rescue kitten named Rex learn to walk. The low-cost device is helping Rex gain strength in rehab and has inspired local rescuers, who say they've never seen anything like this creative solution.
