1. 'We cannot afford this rate increase': Enbridge customers urge utilities commission to reject rate hike (news5cleveland.com) — Cleveland Enbridge Gas customers are pushing back hard against a proposed $7.60 monthly rate hike, telling state regulators it would strain already tight budgets across the city and nearby suburbs. At a public hearing, residents and the Ohio Consumers' Counsel questioned why the increase would hit fixed charges hardest and urged the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to scale it back, while Enbridge argued it's needed to maintain system reliability.

2. Road rage incident involves object throwing: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter (cleveland.com) — Police in nearby Mayfield Heights recently cited a Cleveland man and a Warrensville Heights woman after a road-rage clash that escalated into object throwing and a minor crash on I-271. Another Cleveland man was arrested after a theft at CVS and found with drug paraphernalia, while officers also handled shoplifting, immigration-related detentions, and a dispute at a local restaurant.

3. Operation targets violent crime in Northern Ohio (vindy.com) — A major law-enforcement sweep across Northern Ohio targeted violent crime in cities including Cleveland, leading to 619 arrests and nearly 200 seized firearms. Cleveland residents are among those facing federal charges, and the Cleveland Division of Police worked with U.S. Marshals and other agencies to clear hundreds of warrants and remove large quantities of narcotics from area streets.

4. Powerball numbers for Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026; jackpot $48 million (cleveland.com) — If you bought a Powerball ticket in Cleveland, the winning numbers for Wednesday's $48 million jackpot have been released, along with all of Ohio's other lottery results. The piece also lists Classic Lotto, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, Rolling Cash 5 and other game odds and drawing schedules useful for regular players.
