Humane Society of the Ohio Valley seeks funding from Washington County (newsandsentinel.com) — The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley in Marietta warns it could run out of money by year's end and is asking Washington County for $15,000 a month to stay open. With about half its animals coming from Marietta, commissioners urged the group to seek more city support while they weigh possible county funding.
   

2. Washington State's Workforce 30 initiative focused on future workforce (newsandsentinel.com) — Washington State College of Ohio in Marietta is leading a Workforce 30 initiative to prepare southeast Ohio for looming worker retirements and rising demand for skilled employees. Recent roundtables, new credential programs with local schools, and paid engineering internships aim to keep young people learning, working, and building careers in and around Marietta.

WTAP's 100 Candle Club honors Centenarian Janice Kindelberger (wtap.com) — Longtime Marietta-area resident Janice Kindelberger just celebrated her 100th birthday, now living in Devola and staying active with Putnam Congregational Church. Known locally for her decades in education and a recent Marietta Times feature, she even donated a new cabin to Camp Hervida, reflecting her ongoing impact on the community.
   

4. Prep football roundup: Tigers fall to Monarchs (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta's Tigers let a double-digit second-half lead slip away at home, falling 37-28 to John Marshall despite three touchdowns from Braydon Frye. The roundup also highlights strong wins by Fort Frye, Frontier, and Belpre, setting up several intriguing regional matchups for Washington County fans next week.
