📰 News we're reading
• Mentor Schools survey shows split over consolidation plans; district names interim treasurer (cleveland.com) — Mentor families are weighing in on major school consolidation plans that could close three elementary schools and potentially move eighth graders into Mentor High School starting in 2027-28. A recent survey shows the community almost evenly split on the move, while strongly agreeing on keeping school communities together and protecting programs. The district also just appointed veteran finance professional Todd Puster as interim treasurer.

• 'Can I have a bonfire in Mentor?' and other city service questions (news-herald.com) — Mentor residents heading into fall should know that open burning of trash, brush, or leaves is banned, small cooking fires are allowed, and bonfires need Fire Prevention Bureau approval. The city also outlines expanded yard-waste limits starting Oct. 26, how to report dead animals, debris, or streetlight outages, rules for solicitors and "No Solicitors" signs, and how to apply for deer bow-hunting permits. City staff encourage residents to call or visit the website for answers.
