• City of Mentor names new police chief (spectrumnews1.com) — Mentor has selected longtime officer Mike Majernik as its next police chief, succeeding retiring Chief Ken Gunsch at the end of October. With 29 years on the Mentor force and extensive training credentials, Majernik becomes acting chief October 10 and officially takes over November 1, shaping how the department serves residents going forward.
   

• Mentor Marsh observation tower expected to be complete in November (cleveland.com) — Mentor's long-awaited observation tower at Mentor Marsh is on track to be finished in November, giving residents an ADA-accessible, 95-foot-high viewing deck over the marsh and Lake Erie. Funded by city capital dollars and a state grant, the project follows strong voter approval and will sit just north of the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve trailhead, with a ribbon-cutting planned next month.
   

• Mentor at Shaker Heights football: Preview capsule for Oct. 9 game (news-herald.com) — Mentor football heads to Shaker Heights on Friday night in a key Greater Cleveland Conference matchup that could keep the Cardinals tied for first place in the league. Despite last week's tough loss and an injured starting quarterback, Mentor remains high in the playoff rankings, with several offensive standouts ready to respond and protect their postseason position.
