• Portland State University Lands Record Grant To Turn Research Into Action (kxl.com) — Portland State University has secured a record $5.9 million National Science Foundation grant to turn campus research into real-world companies, products, and industry partnerships rooted in Portland and across Oregon. Over three years, the funding will flow through Propel PSU to boost translational research, support startup activity, and better connect PSU's growing research strengths with regional jobs and investment.
   

• 'Smell of rotten fish': Central City Concern, MultCo sued after delayed discovery of resident's death (koin.com) — A Portland family is suing Central City Concern and Multnomah County for $3 million, alleging staff ignored repeated wellness-check requests before a resident's body went undiscovered for about 11 days in a Shoreline Apartments unit. The lawsuit highlights similar delayed-death discoveries at other Portland housing sites run by Central City Concern and claims the county failed to enforce required resident monitoring protocols.
   

• 'Size matters': Doctor weighs in on best safety practices for youth football (koin.com) — With high school football already underway around Portland and youth leagues ramping up, a local OHSU doctor is urging parents to scrutinize how programs handle size differences, coaching, and concussion protocols. He explains how mismatched players can raise injury risks, outlines OSAA safety requirements for high schools, and encourages extra caution and medical evaluation for younger athletes.
