• Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for DUII crash that killed beloved Salem teacher (kptv.com) — A Salem cyclist and Sprague High School science teacher was killed in a 2025 DUII crash on Delaney Road Southeast, and the driver has now been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors say he crossed the center line at high speed with alcohol and cannabis in his system, and his prior DUII history factored into the case's outcome.
   

• Portland-area immigration advocates cite 'alarming' number of ICE sightings, arrests (koin.com) — Immigrant-rights advocates say they're getting a surge of reports about ICE activity across Oregon, including right here in Salem. A local hotline has logged numerous calls and at least 21 recent detentions, prompting organizers to warn families and neighbors to stay informed while they await an official response from federal authorities.
   

• 'Damaging our democracy': Oregon proposal to ban corporations from political spending advances (koin.com) — A Salem resident is among the chief petitioners behind a new statewide effort to ban corporations and other organizations from spending money on Oregon political campaigns. The proposal, "Stomp Out Dark Money Oregon," has cleared its first signature hurdle and could appear on the 2028 ballot, complementing contribution limits lawmakers already passed that take effect in 2027.
