Gov. Shapiro Comes Home To Cast Vote In Abington

The governor and first lady came to an Abington Township school to cast their votes on Tuesday. Shapiro later won his re-election bid.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Before Gov. Josh Shapiro cruised to victory in Tuesday's general election, he came home to cast his vote.

The governor and First Lady Lori Shapiro cast their ballots at Rydal West Elementary School on Election Day, greeting supporters before voting, according to reports.

Shapiro — whose home is in Abington — handily defeated Republican challenger and Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, a former U.S. Army Reserve officer from Bradford County, in his re-election bid.

Garrity opted to vote by mail instead of casting a vote at an election poll.

Shapiro, 53, is a former Montgomery County commissioner and Pennsylvania attorney general.

Shapiro won election to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in 2011. The election marked the first time that the Republican Party lost control of the board, which Shapiro chaired from 2012 to 2016.

Just after polls closed on Tuesday night, Shapiro was declared the winner to serve as governor for the next four years, with the Associated Press and NBC News calling his victory.
