1. Buildings throughout Harrisburg turn lights off to protect migrating birds (local21news.com) — Harrisburg residents are being asked to dim or turn off lights overnight from August 15 to November 15 to help protect migrating birds flying south. By cutting decorative and upper-floor lighting between midnight and 6 a.m., locals can reduce light pollution that disorients birds and contributes to deadly collisions, joining the Lights Out Harrisburg effort launched in 2021.
