3 Cats Killed In Apartment Fire In Delco

TRAINER, PA — Three cats died in a fire Tuesday night at an apartment building in Delaware County, officials said.

Heavy flames spread through a second-floor apartment at around 7:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of West 3rd Street in Trainer.

Some apartments in the seven-unit building were occupied when the fire started, but every person safely escaped, according to 6abc Action News.

Four cats were pulled from the home, and a fifth was later found. Only two of the cats survived, according to the Upper Chichester Fire Department.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the homeowners during this difficult time," the fire department said in a statement. "Our members did everything they could to locate and rescue the animals."

Some firefighters broke open the roof while others battled the blaze inside. Photos shared by the Aston Township Fire Department show heavy damage in at least one apartment.

It's unclear how many residents were displaced.

Officials believe he fire started on the second floor, but the cause remains under investigation, says NBC10.
