'Grateful For The Men And Women Serving Montco': Crews Working Overtime Amid Blizzard

Plows and salt trucks worked through the night and into the morning Monday, but many roads remain inundated.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Public works crews have been working for hours around Montgomery County to help dig the area out from the blizzard that hammered the area over the weekend, and the snow is still piling up.

More than a foot of snow fell in several communities around the county as of Monday morning, with even more snow expected Tuesday night.

Snow plows and salt trucks have been out since Saturday preparing the roads and then clearing snow as swiftly as possible.

"These teams work long hours in challenging conditions to clear snow, treat surfaces, and protect our community," Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder said. "Their dedication makes a real difference during storms like this...Grateful for the men and women serving Montco through the storm."

Winder said she visited with crews Sunday as the snow piled up and they began to deploy around the county. Both county and municipal crews remained on the roads Monday afternoon, making multiple passes over roads. Snow emergency routes were cleared first.

The snow is particularly wet and heavy, making plowing and clearing more difficult.

"Due to the content and heavy nature of the snow, some roads may still have light residual coverage," the borough of Lansdale shared.

While travel bans that were in place in South Jersey and elsewhere are now largely lifted, officials continue to urge residents to stay off the roads if they can. Travel remains dangerous in areas, and many roads were considered "impassable" Sunday into Monday, the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety said.

Montgomery County has also extended its Code Blue cold weather emergency declaration for the rest of the week. It will now be in place until 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, as temperatures and wind chills are expected to routinely hit the 20s and teens.
