Scammers Pose As Phoenixville Police, Demand Bitcoin Payment

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Scammers posing as members of the Phoenixville Police Department are attempting to steal money and personal information from local residents, authorities warn.

Suspects identify themselves as officers and claim that victims have missed a court date.

They then attempt to gather personal information from the victims, and request payment in the form of bitcoin or gift cards.

Phoenixville police remind residents they will never ask for payments for not going to court, nor will any legitimate official ever request payment via bitcoin or gift cards.

If a phone call seems suspicious, residents are urged to report it to police.
