1st Measles Case Confirmed In Allegheny County

Shoppers at a suburban Pittsburgh Target might have been exposed to the virus.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department disclosed on Monday that a county resident has tested positive for measles.

The individual, an unvaccinated minor under 18 years old, is recovering at home. For privacy reasons, the department would not provide additional details about the person.

There were no school-related exposures. But people who visited the Target in the Pine Creek Shopping Center on McKnight Road in McCandless on Oct. 1 between 3:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. might have been exposed to the person.

Acc0ording to the state measles dashboard, as of Monday there were 1,004 cases of the virus recorded in Pennsylvania thus far this year. There have been 198 hospitalizations and five measles-associated deaths.
