Big Change Coming To Pittsburgh Bureau Of Fire

PITTSBURGH, PA — A month after being placed on paid administrative leave, Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Daryl Jones will retire next month.

The move comes after a review of the financial, operational and administrative management of the fire department. No details of the review have been released.

“I’d like to thank Darryl Jones for his service and commitment to our country and the City of Pittsburgh throughout his career,” Mayor Corey O’Connor said in a statement. “He is a good man that has done important work for our fire department and the safety of our communities.

“When I took office, I promised the people of Pittsburgh that I would thoroughly review all city departments. After a comprehensive review of the oversight of finances and operations of the Fire Bureau, I believe that it’s in the best interest of the city to move forward under new leadership.”

Jones had been fire chief since 2007.

Assistant Chief Mathew Davis will serve as the acting chief of the bureau of fire until a permanent replacement is named.
