Pittsburgh-Area Restaurant Apologizes For Roach Issues

MONROEVILLE, PA — A restaurant has publicly apologized for roach issues that resulted in the Allegheny County Health Department recently issuing a consumer alert.

Saga Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, at Monroeville Mall, was cited by the health department following a Sept. 17 inspection.

Inspectors found 10 live roaches and an egg case under the bar mesh lining the printer shelf, plus another five live roaches on and behind the kitchen hand sink.

Multiple dead roaches were seen on shelf behind sushi carts in kitchen and on glue boards under the hibachi grills.

The restaurant was contrite in a Facebook post on Friday and said the problems have been corrected.

"We owe you a sincere apology. This falls far short of the standards we set for ourselves," the post stated.

"In the interest of transparency: according to our licensed pest control provider's report, the pests were migrating from shared areas of the mall, including the food court below us. Regardless of the source, we take full responsibility for keeping our restaurant pest-free.

"Here's what we're doing about it:– Full deep-clean and professional extermination of the entire restaurant, completed. Passed the health department's re-inspection on September 24. Professional pest control treatments (will occur) every two weeks, on a fixed schedule– thorough cleaning and sanitation every single day."
