Man Charged After Weapon Seized At Pittsburgh Airport

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County Police have criminally charged a Butler County man who allegedly attempted to get a firearm through a Pittsburgh International Airport security checkpoint.

At 5:36 am on April 20, Transportation Security Administration officers observed a loaded handgun within a passenger’s carry-on bag at the security checkpoint and alerted Allegheny County Police.

Authorities determined that the passenger, Garrett Beattie, 43, of Cranberry, did not possess a valid concealed carry permit. He has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
