1. Major Project Begins To Reduce Flooding In Pittsburgh Neighborhoods (patch.com) — Pittsburgh officials have launched a $6.8 million stormwater project along Stewart Avenue to tackle chronic flooding in the Carrick and Overbrook neighborhoods. The work will add a new storm sewer system, catch basins, and manholes to better capture runoff, with construction and related lane restrictions continuing through September as Pittsburgh Water keeps residents updated.
   

2. Pittsburgh Eatery Hit With Consumer Alert (patch.com) — Diners in Oakland are being warned after the Allegheny County Health Department issued a consumer alert for Hunan Bar/Chuan Xiang Hui on Atwood Street in Pittsburgh. Inspectors documented extensive mouse droppings, fruit flies, a dead cockroach, dented canned goods, poor handwashing facilities, and unsafe food handling practices, prompting concerns about sanitation and food safety at the popular spot.
   

3. Fire-gutted Mount Washington church could be demolished this week (triblive.com) — Demolition of the fire-gutted Grandview United Presbyterian Church in Mount Washington could begin as soon as Wednesday, keeping Grandview Avenue and the nearby Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh branch closed for now. The 175-year-old landmark, once a thriving congregation overlooking the city, will be removed at Pittsburgh Presbytery's expense after years of decline and severe structural damage following the July 7 fire.
   

4. Pittsburgh police address violent summer, call for community cooperation (wtae.com) — Pittsburgh's police chief and community leaders are confronting a violent summer, urging residents to cooperate with investigations and support youth-focused prevention efforts. At a B-PEP news conference and vigil, speakers shared personal stories, highlighted 70 shootings so far this year, and described how coordinated outreach recently helped prevent a planned teen "takeover" downtown.
   

5. Take Amtrak's second train from Pittsburgh to New York this fall (ydr.com) — Pittsburgh travelers will get a second daily Amtrak Pennsylvanian train to New York City starting in mid-November, with tickets on sale in October. The added route, backed by more than $80 million in state rail investments, will double current service and maintain stops through Greensburg, Johnstown, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New Jersey before reaching New York.
