Troubled Pittsburgh Bar Must Improve Safety Or Close: DA

PITTSBURGH, PA — A troubled Pittsburgh bar was given a two-day reprieve to stay open Monday by Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala.

Capo's, on East Carson Street in the South Side, has that period to acquiesce to Zappala's demands to improve safety at the bar. Zappala has not divulged the specifics of those demands.

Zappala said last week that he was prepared to shut down the bar "following a list of concerning events, most recently involving the sexual assault of a female patron."

Zappala was referring to the recent rape of an intoxicated woman who was assaulted and found naked in a nearby parking lot after leaving Capo's. A suspect in the case, Larry Johnson of Allentown, is in custody.

Zappala said that if the demands to improve safety are not met within 48 hours, he is prepared to file a petition to close the bar.

The owners of Capo's have not publicly commented on the ultimatum.
