Pittsburgh-Area Collegiate Athletic Star Dies

PITTSBURGH, PA — A rising senior star athlete at a Pittsburgh-area university has died following a motorcycle accident this past weekend.
Waynesburg University has announced the passing of Jessie Orbin of Houston, PA.
"Jessie Orbin will be greatly missed," the university said in a statement. "We are sending prayers for God to lift up and comfort his family at this difficult time."

According to the university, Orbin was a standout on the mats for the Yellow Jackets. He eclipsed 100 victories (107-25) in just three seasons, while also winning two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) titles and appearing in a third championship bout.
He was recognized by the PAC as its Outstanding Wrestler at the 2026 conference championships.

His also won four other individual tournament crowns, won the PAC Wrestler of the Week seven times and was named PAC Newcomer of the Week twice as a freshman.
Orbin also served as a team captain during the 2025-26 campaign, during which he led the team in total wins, pins, technical falls and major
decisions. His flawless 11-0 record in dual matches this past winter gave him a 38-bout win streak in dual competition that stretched back to early in his freshman campaign.
He was twice named Waynesburg University Male Athlete of the Year at the annual WUESPY awards. Orbin also spent time with the Waynesburg University football team.
Jessie suffered a severe brain injury that was not survivable, leaving his family, friends, and community heartbroken.
A public viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Beinhauer Family Funeral Home at 2828 Washington Road in McMurray.
The funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday at 11 a.m.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help pay for funeral costs.
"Jessie suffered a severe brain injury that was not survivable, leaving his family, friends, and community heartbroken," Niki Presto, who created the page stated.
"We are asking for the support of our community during this
unimaginable time to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses and funeral arrangements. Jessie did not have life insurance, and any contribution, no matter the amount, will help his family focus on grieving and honoring his memory.
"Jessie was only 20 years old, but the impact he made on those around him was extraordinary."
