PITTSBURGH, PA — A veteran Pittsburgh radio and TV reporter has died.
Bob Kmetz, a mainstay at KDKA-AM radio for decades and a reporter at KDKA-TV, died unexpectedly on Saturday. He was 83.
According to his obituary, Kmetz began his career at WJRC radio in Joliet, Illinois in 1965. He then moved to KIOA in Des Moines, Iowa, where he worked for five years.

Kmetz came to KDKA-AM in Pittsburgh in 1972 and worked there as a reporter and anchor until his retirement in 2003. He also worked as a weekend reporter for KDKA-TV for eight years.
During his 31-year career at KDKA Radio and TV, Kmetz produced numerous freelance films and voice-overs for U.S. Steel, J&L Steel, PPG, and Koppers.

His work included a full-length film for Union Switch & Signal titled The Search for Safety, which was translated into nine languages.
He also created feature pieces for Evening Magazine in a segment titled "On the Road with Bob Kmetz."
