Wife Of UMPC Physican Killed In Home Attack Released From Hospital

Dr. Idris Evans' wife was critically wounded in the attack that killed her husband.

EDGEWOOD, PA — The wife of the UPMC doctor who was killed in a stabbing attack at his home last week has been released from the hospital.

Allegheny County Police have confirmed that Gina Evans has been discharged.

Gina Evans was wounded when a man entered the family's North Linden Avenue home on Sept. 24 and stabbed her and her husband, UPMC Children's Hospital physician Dr. Idris Evans while the couple was asleep.

Police said Gina Evans was critically wounded in the attack, but managed to escape with the couple's two children. Idris Evans suffered fatal wounds, however.

Elijah Hemingway, 32, was arrested following the incident and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass.

Hemingway also has been charged in the sexual assault of a woman in Wilkinsburg the day before the attack.
