1. 9/11 remembrance ceremonies planned (citizensvoice.com) — Wilkes-Barre residents can mark their calendars for two local 9/11 remembrance events on Sept. 11: a Luzerne County ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in the courthouse rotunda and a King's College community gathering, mass, and evening football tribute. Additional observances are also planned in Hazleton and Nanticoke for those wishing to honor the day elsewhere nearby.
   

2. IronPigs rally late to beat RailRiders (timesleader.com) — Fans following the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders saw a tough 8–6 loss to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs after a late ninth-inning rally at nearby PNC Field. Every RailRiders starter had a hit, and the teams traded leads all night before defensive miscues and back-to-back IronPigs doubles decided the game. The series wraps up Sunday afternoon with Adam Kloffenstein on the mound.
   

3. Student Achievements: Sept. 6, 2026 (citizensvoice.com) — Wilkes-Barre readers can spot local pride here, with University of Rhode Island graduate Luisaura Garcia of Wilkes-Barre and a long list of Wilkes-Barre Academy alumni heading to colleges across the country. The roundup also highlights other nearby students earning degrees, dean's list honors, and academic awards at Pennsylvania College of Technology and Kutztown University.
   

4. DEP To Hold Oct. 15 Hearing On Stormwater Permit For SINC Construction LLC Greenwood Acres Residential Community In Tobyhanna Twp., Monroe County (blogspot.com) — Residents in Wilkes-Barre who follow regional development can review stormwater permit plans for a proposed Tobyhanna Township housing community at DEP's Northeast Regional Office on Public Square. DEP will hold an October 15 hearing in Pocono Pines, where officials will explain the permit and take public testimony on potential environmental impacts.
