1. Leila M. Nasif (pvdeye.org) — East Providence is mourning the loss of 72-year-old Leila M. Nasif, a devoted mother and grandmother who passed away at home surrounded by family. A longtime machine operator and bowling league regular in East Providence, she was known for lively garage parties, Friday game nights, and her love of cooking. Burial will be private, with a service planned at a later date.
   

2. Deborah S. Bentz (pvdeye.org) — Longtime East Providence resident Deborah S. Bentz is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, church member, and Amica employee who brightened others' lives. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Haven United Methodist Church on Taunton Avenue in East Providence, with suggested memorial donations to RISPCA or Hope Health Hospice.
   

3. Tiverton students buddy up with Loft at Linn seniors (eastbayri.com) — High school students, including several from Tiverton, spent a week at the Loft at Linn in East Providence building friendships with residents and learning about dementia care. The August "Moments That Matter" camp paired each teen with a senior buddy for activities, therapy support, and a closing cookout, leaving families and staff eager to repeat the intergenerational program.
   

4. A soggy start for many high school teams on Tuesday. Here's who won (providencejournal.com) — East Providence High's volleyball team pulled off a dramatic five-set comeback win over East Greenwich, and several Townies teams have home games scheduled this week, including matchups against Mt. Hope and Middletown. The roundup highlights scores, postponements, and upcoming game times across Rhode Island, giving East Providence fans a clear look at how local rivals are starting their fall seasons.
   

5. Beacon Bank collects record 7,500 pounds of food in Rhode Island drive (pbn.com) — Beacon Bank's summer food drive brought in a record 7,500 pounds of food statewide, with the Highland Avenue branch in East Providence among the top contributors. Donations are being distributed to 14 local food pantries, including East Bay Community Action Program and other groups supporting Rhode Islanders facing food insecurity.
