📰 News we're reading
1. You're not dreaming — Pawtucket Avenue is being paved (eastbayri.com subscription) — If you drive Pawtucket Avenue, you'll finally see it getting paved from Warren Avenue down to Veterans Memorial Parkway, with work underway now and targeted to finish by early September. City officials say this long-awaited state project comes after years of coordination and will be followed by new sidewalks and curbs further north in 2027. No local tax dollars are being used for the paving now in progress.

2. Here are 20 of the top returning girls volleyball players this season (newportri.com) — East Providence volleyball fans can look for senior outside hitter Vivian Bernhardt to take on a much bigger role this fall as the Townies reload after last year's Division I finals run. A statewide preseason list from The Providence Journal spotlights her alongside 19 other standout players expected to shape Rhode Island's girls volleyball season.

3. Barrington Police Chief: Flock camera on Wampanoag Trail was moved (eastbayri.com) — A Flock license plate reader originally installed by East Providence police was mistakenly placed just over the town line in Barrington, but has now been moved back onto East Providence property. Local chiefs say the cameras have helped solve crimes, even as state leaders review privacy concerns and consider a uniform policy. East Providence residents may see more regional camera use affecting investigations that cross city borders.

4. Woman accuses RI man of exposing himself while driving on I-195. He denies it (wpri.com) — An incident reported from East Providence details a Johnston woman's claim that a driver exposed himself and drove aggressively alongside her on I-195 during the Fourth of July, leading to an indecent exposure charge. The Central Falls man accused has pleaded not guilty, saying police twisted his statements during questioning. State police say Flock camera data and the victim's detailed report helped them identify the suspect's black Mustang.
