• West Nile virus detected again in RI communities (wpri.com) — Mosquitoes trapped in East Providence on Aug. 11 tested positive for West Nile virus, keeping Rhode Island's overall risk level high. State health officials urge residents to avoid dusk-to-dawn exposure, use repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and remove standing water around homes through the rest of mosquito season.
   

• Neglected dog's leg amputated, RISPCA searching for owner (wpri.com) — A severely neglected small dog was found abandoned near the East Bay Bike Path in East Providence and later had to have a leg amputated due to matted fur cutting off circulation. Now recovering in foster care, the dog is thriving, while the RISPCA investigates and asks anyone who saw the animal or knows its former owner to come forward with information.
   

• Forget lobster rolls. Rhode Island's stuffies are having a moment (providencejournal.com) — Rhode Islanders are getting national attention for their beloved stuffed quahogs, or "stuffies," a cheaper alternative to pricey lobster rolls. An East Providence restaurateur explains how big local quahog shells make perfect vessels for stuffing, while a long list of spots statewide highlights just how central this dish is to Rhode Island's summer food culture.
