FabNewport and newportFILM are recognized for hands-on and documentary-based learning, while several teachers and longtime housing advocates are honored. Newport Proposes Unified System For All Municipal Parking (newportthisweek.com) — Newport officials are weighing a new "Park Newport" system that would put all city parking permits, payments, and enforcement into a single app and website, potentially changing how you park around town. At the same meeting, the council approved a new school‑zone speed limit near CCRI Newport, backed upgrades to Toppa Field and Easton's Beach resiliency work, and renewed or granted several local business licenses.

Owner of stolen boat involved in Newport shooting speaks out (wpri.com) — Newport police say a stolen sailboat from New Jersey was located in Newport's harbor, leading to a confrontation in which an armed man was shot and killed and an officer wounded. The boat's owner describes the frantic search for his beloved vessel and his shock at the deadly outcome. Newport Police, Rhode Island State Police, and the Attorney General's Office continue to investigate the shooting.
