• Nine new firefighters join the ranks in North Providence (dailydispatch.com) — Nine new probationary firefighters have officially joined the North Providence Fire Department after months of rigorous screening, academy training, and testing. Sworn in by Mayor Charles Lombardi at Town Hall, they now begin probationary service under Chief John Horan's high expectations for discipline, accountability, and performance under pressure.
   

• Girls flag football to become RIIL sport this spring (independentri.com) — Girls at North Providence High will soon be able to letter in varsity flag football, as the Rhode Island Interscholastic League has officially elevated the sport from club to varsity starting in spring 2027. North Providence is among 16 schools already committed, with support from Nike and the NFL helping launch this first-in-New-England opportunity for female athletes.
   

• Designing parks with Rhode Island communities: Q&A with Anthony Cordova (uri.edu) — North Providence is one of three Rhode Island communities where a URI landscape architecture student helped design conceptual park improvements based on resident feedback and local ecology. The fellowship work produced reports and design boards towns can use to seek grants and guide future park upgrades, potentially shaping how local green spaces evolve.
