North Smithfield Charter Questions: Four-Year Council Terms (upriseri.com) — North Smithfield voters will face 10 local charter questions on the Nov. 3 ballot, including creating staggered four-year Town Council terms and a new Department of Facilities and Capital Assets. Other proposals would modernize hiring, audits, planning, ethics, and public notice rules to match state law. Early voting starts Oct. 14, with another public Q&A planned for Oct. 15.
   

2. North Smithfield Schools Set Oct. 6 PFAS Water Meeting (upriseri.com) — North Smithfield families will get a dedicated chance to question experts about PFAS in the middle and high school water system at a special School Committee meeting on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. Superintendent David Raleigh says the blended water supply has stayed below the state's action level, and a $674,000 grant-funded filtration system is designed, piloted, and awaiting Health Department approval.
   

3. North Smithfield Parent Questions School Learning Software (upriseri.com) — A North Smithfield parent is urging the School Committee to reconsider a widely used online reading and math program, arguing it's too basic and gives contradictory results. Another parent backed concerns about classroom technology and invited educators to engage with a new local advocacy group. Residents can share their views during public comment at future School Committee meetings, including a special Oct. 6 session.
   

4. RI Veterans Voice: 24.09.26. Gary Sinise in RI, Local Veterans Events, Resource Info – John A. Cianci (rinewstoday.com) — North Smithfield veterans and families can plug into several nearby supports, from ITAM's Landing Zone Bronco free meals and outreach to volunteer visits at St. Antoine Residence on Rhodes Avenue. The column also explains how to donate to ITAM in North Smithfield, highlights the planned "You Are Not Forgotten Walkway," and lists statewide veterans events, benefits, discounts, and volunteer opportunities you can join now and over the coming year.
   

5. Sports must go on, even as storm bears down on RI. Here are the scores (newportri.com) — North Smithfield girls soccer picked up a 2-1 Division II win over Lincoln School, with sophomore Brynn Santos scoring both goals and classmates Allison Hebert and Maya Green providing assists. The roundup also notes Ponaganset will visit North Smithfield for girls volleyball at 6 p.m., alongside many other Rhode Island high school scores and Friday's game schedule.
