1. Hundreds line up overnight for free dental care as nor'easter approaches Rhode Island (coastalabc.com) — Providence residents in need of dental care can get free treatment this weekend at the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy clinic at Providence Community Health Centers' dental site on Prairie Avenue. Doors open at 5:45 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with first-come, first-served care for uninsured, underinsured, or otherwise unable-to-pay patients, even as a nor'easter approaches.

Prudence Carter Receives Career Award From the American Sociological Association (jbhe.com) — A Brown University sociology professor based in Providence has earned a major national career award from the American Sociological Association for her long-term work on educational inequality and social justice. Her scholarship, leadership roles, and books have helped reshape how researchers and institutions understand and address racial and ethnic disparities affecting young people.
   

3. Photos: Brown students go behind the scenes at RI Philharmonic rehearsal (brown.edu) — In downtown Providence, Brown University music students recently sat in on a Rhode Island Philharmonic rehearsal at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, watching the premiere preparation of a new violin concerto by Brown composer Eric Nathan. Students then quizzed conductor Ruth Reinhardt about how she shapes performances, highlighting a growing collaboration between the orchestra and the university's music community.
   

4. 17th Annual Fara 5K Race for Matt and Grace held in Providence (wpri.com) — Hundreds of participants gathered in Providence on Saturday for the 17th Annual FARA 5K Race for Matt and Grace, moved indoors to Rhode Island College's recreation center because of rain. The event raises money and awareness for Friedreich's ataxia, has generated more than $1.2 million over 17 years, and honors the memory of former 12 News intern Mike Dilorio.
   

5. Three charged in separate incidents at ACI in Cranston (newportdispatch.com) — A Providence man is among three people recently charged at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after separate investigations into contraband and domestic no-contact order violations. Local readers should know that the Providence resident faces cocaine possession and contraband charges and is being held as a Superior Court violator following his arraignment in Third District Court.
