📰 News we're reading

• Smithfield faces legal action over data center ban, project review (wpri.com) — Smithfield residents should know that developers are suing the town over its new ban on data centers, arguing it conflicts with Smithfield's comprehensive plan and acts as an illegal moratorium. Two Superior Court lawsuits challenge both the ordinance and the town's handling of a proposed industrial park and data center off Routes 7 and 116, with potential implications for taxes, development, and neighborhood character.

• Here are the winners from a busy night of high school games Thursday (providencejournal.com) — Smithfield athletes had a busy Thursday, with the girls soccer team edged 1–0 by the Tiverton/Blackstone Valley Prep co-op and the EWG/Prout football co-op set to host Smithfield at 7 p.m. in Exeter-West Greenwich. The roundup also lists dozens of other Rhode Island high school scores and upcoming games, helping local fans track rivals, standings, and where to catch the next matchup.
