1. Downtown Beaufort Turkey Trot returns Nov. 26 to benefit local families (wtoc.com) — Beaufort residents can kick off Thanksgiving morning with the ninth annual Turkey Trot 5K through historic downtown, supporting Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry’s work in Beaufort and Jasper counties. The Nov. 26 race starts at 8 a.m., welcomes all ages and abilities, and includes awards, a costume contest, and options to donate even if you can’t attend. 
2. Annual Halloween celebrations return to the City of Beaufort (wsav.com) — Families in Beaufort can spend today, Oct. 17, celebrating Halloween at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park with free admission, treats, games, crafts, and a kids’ DJ. Trick-or-treating starts at noon in the marina craft market, and the evening wraps up with a community movie night showing Hocus Pocus on the big screen.
3. City of Beaufort's Leaders discuss plan to address rapid population growth (wsav.com) — Beaufort city leaders are considering a temporary pause on new apartment construction so infrastructure and a comprehensive plan can catch up with rapid population growth. Already-permitted projects and certain small or affordable housing developments, including Beaufort Jasper Housing Authority efforts, would be exempt. A final vote on the moratorium is scheduled for November 17.
4. SC's school report cards are out. Here's how Beaufort Co. schools performed (islandpacket.com) — New state report cards show most Beaufort County School District schools rated average or better, with several earning good or excellent marks. Middle schools performed especially well, and the district’s overall rating mix slightly outpaces statewide results. Parents can dig into detailed scores for each local school on the state’s report card website.
