The $350 million facility will massively expand U.S. solar cell capacity, with much of its output already spoken for through 2030.

Suniva announces 4.5-GW solar cell facility in South Carolina (utilitydive.com) — A major solar manufacturer plans to build a $350 million, 4.5‑GW solar cell factory in Laurens, dramatically boosting local manufacturing and jobs by 2027. The project would make Suniva the largest merchant solar cell maker in the country and reflects a broader national push to onshore clean‑energy supply chains and meet rising power demand from data centers.
   

3. Coroner identifies woman who died days after multi-vehicle crash in Laurens County (foxcarolina.com) — Laurens County officials have identified a 26-year-old Spartanburg woman who died days after a multi-vehicle crash on I-26 East near Clinton. She passed away at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital and was honored with a Walk of Honor for her organ donation, while Highway Patrol and the Laurens County Coroner continue investigating the wreck.
   

4. Greenville police: 11 arrested in child sex crime operation (wspa.com) — A Laurens resident is among 11 men charged after Greenville police and state agents ran a two-day undercover sting targeting people seeking sex with minors. Investigators say the operation led to dozens of warrants and serious charges including criminal sexual conduct with a minor, participation in prostitution of a minor, and human trafficking across the Upstate.
   

5. Stricter abortion ban advances in SC Senate, months after previous plan rejected (morningsun.net) — A state senator from Laurens is among those weighing a new proposal that would further tighten South Carolina’s abortion laws, banning nearly all procedures and adding criminal penalties for women and doctors. The bill advanced from a Senate Medical Affairs subcommittee and now heads to the full committee, even as some Republicans express concerns about punishing women and removing exceptions for rape, incest, and fatal fetal anomalies.
