Sioux Falls opens leaf, branch drop-off site (pigeon605.com) — Sioux Falls has opened two free seasonal leaf and branch drop-off sites on Lyon Boulevard and Chambers Street, available daily through Nov. 29 for city and regional landfill residents. Only residential loads are accepted, with rules on vehicle types, separating leaves and branches, and removing plastic bags, plus reminders about using the landfill's annual free pass.
   

2. City of Sioux Falls opens new home for Light, Power & Traffic division (siouxfallslive.com subscription) — Sioux Falls has consolidated its Light, Power & Traffic division into a new 54,000-square-foot facility on East 60th Street North, near the public safety campus and water reclamation plant. The $14.7 million building brings staff, equipment, and storage under one roof to better maintain streetlights, traffic signals, fiber networks, and power services that residents rely on every day.
   

3. Sioux Falls law enforcement backs use of license plate readers (siouxfallslive.com) — Sioux Falls leaders are defending the city's network of Automatic License Plate Readers after critics raised concerns at recent City Council meetings. Police and Mayor Christine Erickson say the Flock camera system, in place since June 2025, helps track suspects and parole absconders, while opponents question its use and implications for residents' privacy.
   

4. SD Department of Corrections announces high-risk offender release (ksfy.com) — State corrections officials are warning Sioux Falls residents about the Sept. 18 release of 62-year-old Anthony Salinas, a high-risk offender who completed a 12-year aggravated assault sentence from Minnehaha County. Because he served his full term, he will not be supervised on parole. Authorities are notifying local law enforcement and the public due to his elevated risk of reoffending.
   

5. Miles with a mission: 437 Project begins journey (dakotanewsnow.com) — A relay team is setting off from Sioux Falls on the 437 Project, a multi-day run across South Dakota to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental health. Thirteen runners share personal motivations, including honoring loved ones lost to suicide. Organizers hope the journey encourages more open conversations and support for people who are struggling.
