Johnson City Rotary Club Supports TOPSoccer Sundays in May
Students with Special Needs Invited to Play Soccer at Science Hill

(Johnson City, Tenn.) - TOPSoccer is a volunteer-run program allowing adults and kids with special needs the opportunity to play soccer and be part of a team. The Johnson City Rotary Club is leading this year’s TOPSoccer program each Sunday in May at Science Hill High School’s Steve Spurrier field at Kermit Tipton Stadium from 3:30-4:30 (except Memorial Day weekend when they will NOT meet). Rotarians accompany the students as they take part in drills taught by Science Hill and other local soccer players.
US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability. TOP Soccer’s goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US Youth Soccer family.
According to Patrick Mitchell, the Johnson City Rotary Club’s TOPSoccer director,“TOPSoccer is an initiative of US Youth Soccer and an initiative of the Tennessee State Soccer Association in cooperation with local club soccer teams that allows individuals with special needs and developmental challenges to participate in a sport, in a safe and accessible manner. The Johnson City Rotary Club has long supported TOPSoccer locally and felt the call to continue the program in a leadership role in 2026 with continued support from the Johnson City Futbol Club, after time constraints prevented the local program’s founder, Coach Ron Kind, from being able to continue in a leadership role. The program teaches athletic skills, determination, drives competitive spirit and affords athletes the ability to showcase their talents in a safe and controlled environment, while learning teamwork.”
