ā¢ Boyd Foundation donates another $1 million to flood relief in Cocke County (wate.com) ā A fresh $1 million gift from the Boyd Foundation is headed to Cocke County, with Newportās Main Street Program, animal shelter, and emergency services among the first to benefit. The money will also support local farmers, individual residents, and riverfront infrastructure repairs, helping the community move from short-term flood recovery into long-term resilience after Hurricane Helene.

ā¢ Norfolk Southern Railway to resume service through Swannanoa Valley ā The Valley Echo (thevalleyecho.com) ā Freight trains are returning to the Swannanoa Valley this weekend, restoring full service on Norfolk Southernās Asheville-Salisbury Line after Hurricane Helene damage. For Newport residents, that means the key rail corridor between Eastern Tennessee and Ashevilleāalready reopened last May between Newport and Ashevilleāwill now be fully operational again, increasing regional freight movement and rail traffic.
