šŸ“° News we're reading

• Rogersville BMA makes deals, accepts settlement (tncontentexchange.com) — Rogersville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an interlocal aid agreement with Mount Carmel and backed a countywide settlement with Holston Electric over unpaid franchise fees. The board also advanced park paving plans, fire department upgrades, a new public records policy, and traffic and personnel ordinances that could affect daily life around town.

• Downtown Rogersville tree plans changed (tncontentexchange.com) — Downtown Rogersville’s longtime courthouse Christmas tree spot is getting a permanent change: a smaller dogwood now stands there, matching other courthouse trees. Two new evergreens will instead be installed at the town park and on the downtown quad for future holiday celebrations.

• School voucher bill narrowly passes state House (greenevillesun.com) — Rogersville’s state representative, Gary Hicks, joined several Northeast Tennessee lawmakers in voting against a closely contested bill to expand Tennessee’s school voucher program. The measure still passed the House 52–43 and now heads to the Senate, potentially increasing available Education Freedom Scholarships to 35,000 statewide and adding funding protections for public districts that lose students to vouchers.
