Election Day in Forney City Council Election Is Saturday
Polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Saturday is Election Day in Forney. Voters will select two City Council members. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
City elections are held in Forney every May. City Council members are staggered for three-year terms. While the City Council is elected by place number, the number is only for candidacy purposes only. Each member represents the entire city.
On May 2, City Council places 4 and 6 are on the ballot. Polling locations will be open across Kaufman County, which partners with the city to run its elections. Visit the city's website for a full list of Election Day polling locations.

In Place 4, voters will select from among Diane McPherson, Joseph "Yaz" Yazdanpanahi, and Sarah Salgado. In Place 6, voters will choose from among Greg Helm, Curtis Evans, Florelia "Flower" Escamilla.
Forney City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month or as needed. Currently, the mayor of Forney is Jason Robertson and the council is made up of James Traylor (Place 1), Cecil Chambers (Place 2), Jay Weatherford (Place 3), Sarah Salgado (Place 4), Zahnd Schlensker (Place 5), and Greg Helm (Place 6).

Among other responsibilities, the Forney City Council:
- Adopts the annual budget
- Annexes property into the city limits
- Appoints the city manager, city secretary, city attorney, and municipal court judges
- Approves certain city expenditures
- Awards contracts and bids
- Establishes development standards
- Makes appointments to boards and committees
- Regulates zoning
- Sets the annual property tax rate for the City of Forney
