📰 News we're reading

1. Houston weather: Late-night storms possible; more isolated for Sunday (fox26houston.com) — Expect scattered showers around Houston through the end of the weekend, with the heaviest rain mainly along the coast and south of I-10. A slow-moving front should finally bring slightly cooler, drier air early to midweek, with morning lows dipping into the upper 60s and low 70s. No tropical development is expected in the Atlantic over the next week.

2. Westbury community walks in memory of LePaul Warren, calls for action on youth gun violence (click2houston.com) — Hundreds of Westbury residents in southwest Houston walked together to honor student LePaul Warren and demand more action against youth gun violence. Family members, alumni, and Councilman Edward Pollard urged more mentorship, after-school programs, and scrutiny of how kids access guns, hoping Warren's death sparks lasting change and safer options for Houston youth.

3. Woman charged with murdering her own sister in west Houston, court records show (abc13.com) — A young woman and her partner are charged with capital murder after her 27-year-old sister was found dead in a west Houston apartment on Richmond Avenue. Relatives say the suspects traveled from Florida, allegedly planning the killing and robbery, and describe the victim as a positive, ambitious hairstylist preparing for pharmacy school. The case is now moving through Harris County courts.

4. HPD: 2 men charged with capital murder in deadly shooting of 17-year-old in northeast Houston (khou.com) — Houston police have arrested a second suspect in the capital murder of a 17-year-old during an attempted robbery in northeast Houston along Mesa Drive. Investigators say surveillance video and license plate readers helped track the suspects' vehicle, leading to capital murder charges in separate Harris County courts. Authorities are still asking anyone with information to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers.
