Houston apartment in custody after hours-long standoff (click2houston.com) — Houston police say a man is in custody after an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex near E. Crosstimbers and Fulton on the city's north side. Officers rescued a woman and the suspect's mother, then used SWAT, a drone, and a taser to safely end the incident; prosecutors are weighing additional charges.
   

2. HISD mom concerned over daughter's bus stop assigned 3 miles away from home (fox26houston.com) — A Houston ISD mother says her 10-year-old's new bus stop is three miles from home, forcing a dangerous walk along busy streets and over a highway in Houston's heat. She's urging HISD to rethink its new hub-style bus system for magnet students, while the district says it aims to keep stops within three miles of eligible families.
   

3. Charlotte Cosgrove: Every Day (glasstire.com) — Houston art lovers can mark their calendars for a new exhibition of drawings by longtime Glassell School instructor and Houston-based artist Charlotte Cosgrove at Hooks-Epstein Galleries on Colquitt. Her show "Every Day" opens this season, with a Sept. 12 reception and a Sept. 16 artist conversation and happy hour you can attend.
   

4. Indian Consulate in Houston Marks Independence Day with Community Celebrations (southasianherald.com) — Houston's Indian consulate marked India's 80th Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural performances that drew local leaders and community members from across the region. Events in Houston and at the Anand Bazaar in Frisco highlighted the diaspora's role, with University of Houston and Harris and Fort Bend County officials joining in the celebrations.
   

5. FOX 26 viewer donates $2,700 to dog rescue group after thief was caught on camera stealing supplies (fox26houston.com) — After a thief was caught on camera breaking into a supply bin at Oak Forest's Rescued Pets Movement, a FOX 26 viewer stepped up with a $2,700 donation. The gift will fund a sturdier metal bin with a better lock and extra money for pet food and supplies, showing how Houston residents are rallying around local rescue animals.
