• Development Wells drilling permits August 7-August 14 (mrt.com) — Oil activity around Odessa remains busy, with new drilling permits approved just a few miles southeast, southwest, west, and northwest of town in Ector County. The detailed Railroad Commission filings show continued horizontal drilling across nearby counties, underscoring how strongly the regional energy industry is still investing in the Permian Basin.
   

• US rig count down five as prices climb (star-telegram.com) — Permian Basin drilling ticked up to 267 active rigs this week, even as the overall U.S. rig count slipped by five. For Odessa's oil-driven economy, that local strength comes alongside higher crude prices, with Plains-WTI and national benchmarks both climbing more than four dollars per barrel over the past week.
