John Nieves of Round Rock, TX, Recognized as 2026 EVT of the Year (firehouse.com) — Round Rock residents can be proud that city fire shop lead technician John Nieves has been named the 2026 Emergency Vehicle Technician of the Year. After years maintaining Round Rock ISD buses and now the city's fire fleet, he's recognized nationally for keeping local emergency vehicles safe and reliable for firefighters and the community.
   

2. Music on Main: Fall/Holiday 2026 (roundrocktexas.gov) — Downtown Round Rock will host free Music on Main concerts every Wednesday from October through December, offering live music, face painting, and balloon twisting. Residents are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets, pack a picnic or grab local takeout, and enjoy easy free parking, including at the City Hall Parking Garage.
   

3. TXST sets another enrollment record with preliminary fall figures (universitystar.com) — Texas State University's Round Rock campus just hit a new milestone, topping 4,000 students and growing 37% over last year as part of record-breaking enrollment across the system. Leaders credit expanded graduate offerings, community college partnerships, and more online degrees, while pledging to keep tuition flat through 2027 and continue reducing barriers for Central Texas students.
   

4. How Judge Steve Snell is Steering Williamson County's Growth (chinookobserver.com) — A new episode of the Round Rock-based Rock Solid Business Leaders Podcast features Williamson County Judge Steve Snell discussing how rapid growth will affect cities like Round Rock, from transportation and water planning to emergency response. He also highlights partnerships with Round Rock ISD and local employers that aim to strengthen jobs, education, and infrastructure across the county.
   

5. CROSS COUNTRY: Canyon girls edge Salado in battle of 4A state title contenders (kdhnews.com) — Round Rock's Old Settlers Park just hosted the prestigious Hoka Round Rock McNeil Invitational, a major preview of the UIL state cross country meet. Top 4A and 6A girls teams from across Texas battled on the familiar state-meet course, with Canyon edging Salado and several Central Texas programs turning in strong performances over two days of racing.
