Homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits across Bexar and surrounding counties may qualify for substantial repair and recovery funds, with walk-in assistance and flexible long-term repayment options available.
   

2. Dallas Cowboys' Von Miller to give free eye exams, glasses to San Antonio children (ksat.com) — San Antonio families with uninsured kids can sign up now for free eye exams and two pairs of glasses at next Saturday's Von's Vision event at the Boys & Girls Club Eastside Clubhouse. The program, led by Cowboys linebacker Von Miller's nonprofit, is limited to 100 San Antonio children ages 3–17, so advance registration is essential.
   

3. San Antonio mariachi pioneer Belle Ortiz leaves lasting legacy in music education (kens5.com) — San Antonio students at Lanier High School are carrying forward mariachi pioneer Belle Ortiz's legacy in a thriving district-wide program that now serves more than 1,600 young musicians. Her vision transformed local music education, turning mariachi into a powerful way for West Side students to connect with culture, build discipline, and find opportunity in San Antonio ISD classrooms.
   

4. Eastside San Antonio Boys & Girls Club Faces Temporary Closure; Councilman Pledges Conditional Support (kens5.com) — San Antonio's Eastside Boys & Girls Club is set to pause operations at month's end, but Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez plans to fund six months of support if the club shows a path to financial stability. Community advocates are organizing an October 2 meeting at Second Baptist Community Center to rally families and neighbors around keeping a safe space for youth open.
   

5. Waymo resumes picking up San Antonio customers after flood waters swept away one of its cars (sacurrent.com) — Waymo's self-driving cars are back to carrying passengers on San Antonio streets after a months-long pause following a vehicle being swept away in April floodwaters. The company says it audited local flood zones and upgraded software, but San Antonio residents still need to join a waitlist in Waymo's app instead of hailing rides directly through Uber.
