The significance of bringing NYCMSBCC to Times Square extends far beyond the location of a single networking event. It represents a commitment to ensuring that minority entrepreneurs, emerging businesses, and established enterprises have a stronger voice in one of the most influential economic markets in the world.

The Chamber's presence in Manhattan also underscores the interconnected nature of the economies of New York City's five boroughs, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and communities throughout New York State.

THE FOUNDING VISION OF NYCMSBCC

Incorporated on November 2, 2023, the New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was established around the concept that minority-owned small businesses should have greater access to the relationships, resources, advocacy, and economic opportunities necessary to compete and prosper.

The founding concept recognizes that minority entrepreneurs contribute significantly to neighborhood revitalization, employment, innovation, commercial activity, and the long-term economic stability of communities.

The Chamber was envisioned as a vehicle for bringing together entrepreneurs, established corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, professional service providers, and community stakeholders.

Operating under the guiding principle "NYC's Voice for Minority Small Business," NYCMSBCC seeks to build a powerful network capable of helping businesses move beyond survival toward sustainability, expansion, and wealth creation.

THE MISSION OF THE CHAMBER

The mission of the New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is to foster trade and commerce in New York City and beyond, with special emphasis on advancing the interests of minority business owners.

Its mission includes promoting the general welfare of the business community, advocating for fair commercial practices, supporting the removal of barriers to economic participation, and advancing the freedom of commercial intercourse.

Through business education, networking, advocacy, strategic partnerships, and access to opportunities, the Chamber seeks to strengthen minority entrepreneurship and promote a more inclusive economy.

LEADERSHIP ROOTED IN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

The development of NYCMSBCC reflects a broader commitment to institution-building and minority business advocacy championed by founding leader Phil Andrews, a longtime chamber executive and advocate for economic opportunity.

Andrews serves as President of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., Founding President of the African American Small Business Foundation, Inc., and Founding President of 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc.

His leadership experience includes expanding business networks, promoting entrepreneurship, developing organizational partnerships, and connecting minority business owners with public- and private-sector opportunities.

Recognized as a 2019 U.S. Small Business Administration Small Business Champion, Andrews has emphasized the importance of developing institutions that create lasting economic opportunities across generations.

"The establishment of the New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc. represents an important opportunity to connect the economic power of New York City with the entrepreneurial talent found throughout Long Island and New York State," said Phil Andrews. "When we bring business owners together, create meaningful partnerships, and expand access to economic opportunities, we are helping build stronger businesses, stronger communities, and a stronger regional economy."

CONNECTING NEW YORK CITY, LONG ISLAND, AND NEW YORK STATE

The economic relationship between New York City and Long Island is one of the most important regional connections in the state.

New York City's financial institutions, corporate headquarters, commercial markets, transportation networks, tourism industry, and international business relationships provide opportunities for companies throughout the metropolitan area.

Long Island contributes a diverse economy supported by healthcare, education, construction, technology, professional services, retail, manufacturing, and small business entrepreneurship.

Together, these regions represent a substantial concentration of economic activity, purchasing power, employment, and entrepreneurial potential.

NYCMSBCC seeks to strengthen these regional relationships by creating opportunities for businesses to develop partnerships, pursue procurement contracts, access financing, expand customer networks, and establish lasting commercial relationships.

WHY THIS MOMENT MATTERS

The November 4 event comes at a time when access to capital, government procurement, business development resources, and meaningful professional networks remain critical concerns for many minority-owned small businesses.

By convening entrepreneurs and stakeholders in Times Square, the participating organizations seek to advance a practical agenda focused on economic participation and business growth.

The gathering will encourage:

  • Greater collaboration among businesses in all five New York City boroughs, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and beyond.
  • Stronger connections between minority-owned businesses and corporate and government procurement opportunities.
  • Increased access to financial institutions, business development resources, and professional expertise.
  • Partnerships that support business expansion, job creation, and intergenerational wealth.
  • New relationships among established entrepreneurs, emerging business owners, and the next generation of business leaders.

BUILDING AN ECONOMIC LEGACY

The arrival of NYCMSBCC in the heart of Times Square symbolizes a vision of economic empowerment that reaches beyond a single event, neighborhood, or municipality.

The Chamber's long-term goal is to help create an environment where minority entrepreneurs are not merely participants in the economy but increasingly become owners, employers, investors, and leaders shaping its future.

Through collaboration, advocacy, leadership development, and strategic partnerships, NYCMSBCC intends to help strengthen the economic foundation of New York City and expand opportunity across New York State.
