DC Man Charged After Knife Displayed During Pentagon City Store Theft, Police Say

ARLINGTON, VA — A Washington, D.C., man is facing felony robbery and misdemeanor charges after Arlington County police say he threatened store employees with a knife while fleeing with stolen merchandise before being arrested at the Pentagon City Metro station.

Arlington County police said officers responded around 1:30 p.m. Thursday to the 900 block of Army Navy Drive for a reported larceny. According to investigators, a man entered a business, selected merchandise and attempted to leave without paying.

Loss prevention personnel confronted the suspect outside the store, police said. During the encounter, the man allegedly displayed a knife before fleeing the area on foot. No injuries were reported.

Suspect Located At Pentagon City Metro

Responding officers searched the area and located a man matching the suspect's description inside the Pentagon City Metro station.

Police said officers attempted to detain the suspect, who resisted before being taken into custody. Investigators recovered a pocketknife during the arrest.

The suspect was identified as Donnell Thomas Sheck, 31, of Washington, D.C.

According to police, investigators also determined Sheck had previously stolen merchandise from the same business on July 13.

Charges And Court Dates

Sheck was charged with:

• Robbery (Class 5 felony)
• Obstruction of Justice (Class 1 misdemeanor)
• Petit Larceny (Class 1 misdemeanor)

Police said he was held without bond following his arrest.

Arlington General District Court records show Sheck remains in custody. A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday, with preliminary and adjudicatory hearings set for Sept. 22.

As in all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
