NFL Offensive Coordinator's Son Charged In Mother's Shooting: Reports

ASHBURN, VA – The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been arrested and charged after a shooting Sunday night in Ashburn.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a shooting on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn at around 7:30 p.m. They found an adult woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, of Ashburn, has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He has an initial hearing set for August 31.

According to multiple reports, the victim was Mia Bieniemy, 57, the shooter's mother.

"The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family," the Chiefs said in a statement, as reported by Fox News. "Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."

In a statement, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mia Bieniemy was "in stable condition."

Eric Bieniemy, 56, was in Missouri with the Chiefs at the time. He's a former NFL running back and has served as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders during their 2023 season.

Loudoun Now reports that Eric Bieniemy bought the home on Northpark Drive in July 2023.

According to the outlet, court documents reveal that the victim was shot twice. They say four people were in the home when the shooting occurred.
