• VDOT seeks public comment on stretch of Rail Trail (shoredailynews.com) — A major rail-trail project is slated to start right in Cheriton, where VDOT plans to convert the former Bay Coast Railroad corridor into a paved, 10-foot-wide shared-use path stretching to Birdsnest. Residents have until July 6 to review the environmental documents and submit comments, helping shape a new walking and biking connection across the Eastern Shore.

Thaddeus Wallace Jones Jr. of Cheriton, a World War II Army Air Forces pilot whose plane vanished over Papua New Guinea and whose body was never recovered.
