• VDOT seeks public comment on stretch of Rail Trail (shoredailynews.com) — A major rail-trail project is slated to start right in Cheriton, where VDOT plans to convert the former Bay Coast Railroad corridor into a paved, 10-foot-wide shared-use path stretching to Birdsnest. Residents have until July 6 to review the environmental documents and submit comments, helping shape a new walking and biking connection across the Eastern Shore.

• July 2: On this day in Eastern Shore history (easternshorepost.com) — One of the July 2 historical notes honors First Lt. Thaddeus Wallace Jones Jr. of Cheriton, a World War II Army Air Forces pilot whose plane vanished over Papua New Guinea and whose body was never recovered. The piece also recalls other Eastern Shore stories, from tragic accidents to sports milestones and military sacrifices across several decades.
