Aggravated Sexual Battery Charges Levied Against Fairfax Police Sergeant
A Fairfax County police sergeant was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA — A Fairfax County police sergeant was arrested in Fauquier County on Saturday and charged with aggravated sexual battery in connection to an off-duty incident, according to a report the department released Sunday morning.
Matthew Sylvester, 40, of Warrenton, was taken into custody by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office around 1 a.m. on Saturday, according to the report. The report states Sylvester is a 16-year veteran of the Fairfax County Police Department and is assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau.
According to the department’s report, Sylvester was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery in which both victims were known to him.

Following the arrest, Sylvester was placed on administrative leave, according to FCPD. The leave will remain in place pending the outcome of a criminal investigation and an administrative investigation.
As of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, no information was available about whether Sylvester was released or still in custody in Fauquier County. Likewise, there was no information about the date of his arraignment or preliminary trial.
